Overview
Maasai Mara, also sometimes spelled Masai Mara and locally known simply as The Mara, is a large national game reserve in Narok, Kenya, contiguous with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania.
Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi to Maasai Mara
Morning departure from Nairobi to Maasai Mara (approx. 5-6 hours by road or a short domestic flight).
Arrive at your lodge or camp within the Maasai Mara Reserve.
Afternoon game drive: Begin your wildlife viewing adventure with an afternoon safari drive to spot lions, elephants, giraffes, and other animals.
Evening relaxation and dinner at the lodge/camp.
Day 2: Full Day Game Drive in Maasai Mara
Early morning game drive: Witness the sunrise and catch the animals at their most active.
Return to the lodge/camp for breakfast.
Mid-morning relaxation: Take some time to relax, enjoy the lodge facilities, or do some birdwatching.
Afternoon game drive: Explore different areas of the reserve to maximize your chances of spotting various wildlife.
Dinner and overnight at the lodge/camp.
Day 3: Maasai Village Visit and Game Drive
Morning visit to a Maasai village: Learn about the local Maasai culture, traditions, and way of life.
Return to the lodge/camp for lunch.
Afternoon game drive: Continue your wildlife exploration, searching for the Big Five and other animals.
Dinner and overnight at the lodge/camp.
Day 4: Hot Air Balloon Safari and Bush Walk
Early morning: Opt for a hot air balloon safari for a unique aerial view of the Maasai Mara landscape and wildlife. (Advance booking required.)
Champagne bush breakfast: Enjoy breakfast in the bush after your balloon ride.
Afternoon guided bush walk: Experience the reserve on foot, focusing on tracks, smaller wildlife, and the ecosystem’s intricacies.
Dinner and overnight at the lodge/camp.
Day 5: Maasai Mara to Nairobi
Early morning game drive: Capture any missed wildlife moments and bid farewell to the Maasai Mara.
Return to the lodge/camp for breakfast and check-out.
Departure: Drive back to Nairobi or take a domestic flight, arriving by late afternoon or evening.
